ZOO LANEWAY PARTY MELBOURNE MUSIC WEEK CLOSING DAY Featuring Briggs, 30/70 and more
Iconic Melbourne venues Section 8 and Ferdydurke have announced a huge line-up for their ZOO Laneway Party on Saturday November 25th.
Now in its fifth year, ZOO will take over the closing day of Melbourne Music Week with a 9-hour feast of live music, beat-makers, performances and visual arts, boasting a diverse line-up of international acts and showcasing Melbourne royalty.
With more live artists to be announced, Melbourne based visual artist WWZRD6 will be bringing the laneway space to life, showcasing his new series on a four-storey high projection wall throughout the night.
ZOO LANEWAY PARTY LINE UP
BRIGGSleads the helm this year, a truly prominent First Nations voice. Powered by a rapid-fire, melodic and direct approach, with a perspective like no one else. BRIGGS marks a powerful and unique voice in the hip-hop scene, also known for his project A.B. Original and founder of the Bad Apples Music label.
ALEXANDER NUT & FATIMApair up for a special collaborative set. Respected London based DJ and founder of Eglo Records (co-founded with Floating Points) ALEXANDER NUT joins Swedish-born, London based vocal queen FATIMA. The combination of their sounds into abrew of bass heavy sounds of hip hop and soul with house and dubstep.
WEIRD TOGETHERhail from New Zealand, with sounds spanning Ethiopian jazz to Ghanaian rhythms and Caribbean dance. The expansive 8-piece live band are lead by NZ DJ and music connoisseur Nick Dwyer, in tandem with legendary NZ-based UK producer/DJ Dick "Magik" Johnson.
AFTA-1will be gracing Australian shores for the first time at ZOO Laneway Party. The South Californian beat-maker will make his debut, bringing to life his seminal record Afta Thoughts with an all-star cast of local musicians led by AMIN PAYNE to celebrate the classic hip-hop album’s 10 year anniversary.
30/70join the ZOO ranks, with their cosmic mélange of boom-bap, neo-soul harmonies and jazzy licks. Their latest single 'Misrepresented', is a balance of delicate poetry, potent aggression with ease and beguiling pop sensibility. Led by Allysha Joy, this 11-piece ensemble are the freshest collective to emerge from Melbourne’s buzzing soul scene.
KAIITrecently burst onto the scene with her debut track ‘Natural Woman’, with rave reviews and support from Australian music including triple j and independent radio. Hailing from southeast Melbourne, KAIIT is making her mark in the hip-hop scene with her unique jazz and neo-soul sound.
THE CORETEThave built a solid reputation as one of the most eclectic rhythm sections in Melbourne; bursting at the seams with a heady mix of live funk and hip-hop. Onstage the 7-piece band expands with the guest vocalists and MCs for an epic jam.
AFRIK FUTURISMdrum up a dancefloor call-to-arms with layers of West African percussion, live synths and infectious rhythms bringing a modern take to an ancient sound. Featuring Melbourne hip-hop heavyweights N'fa Jones, Mista Monk, Kenyaa & Ousmane Sonko.
POSITIVELY POSITIVE PARTYtake over two levels of Ferdydurke toting classic funk, boogie and disco dancefloor-fillers. This kitschy trio are the most positive DJs in Melbourne setting the party for only positive people.
