Review: David Dallas releases 'All Gas'

SOUL & WINE
OUR FAVOURITE BOPS, PAIRED WITH DELICIOUS DROPS.

As summer comes to a close, it’s only fair a chunky beat plonk in our ears. The brothers in arms, 41 and David Dallas, have dropped their new hip-hop record, 'All Gas'. The beat is soaked with victory horns, as well as a gold school rhythm which lays the foundation for legit lyricism. Dallas’s usual sense of empowerment will leave the listener with big grins, and a head held high.

David Dallas hails from South Auckland, Aotearoa (NZ). His single 'Runnin' met a huge resurgence in 2022, when it featured on a main montage in the Adam Sandler movie, Hustle. In the early 2000s, millennial hip-hop fans will recall Dallas and 41 from the duo Frontline, rotating on Sony Discmans across New Zealand. All Gas is proof in their pudding as the boys continue to craft music together over twenty years later.

In preparation of my upcoming Sunday BBQ, today we'll be pairing All Gas with the Cuvee Marlborough Brut from Nautilus Estate. It’s not the lightest on the wallet, but not the most ‘spenny either. This drop has a biscuit-orient flavour, a little note from the base of your Mum’s cheesecake. It's complex yet precisely structured - the perfect pairing for Dave’s dominant bars and flows, “Don’t like me, then you watered down, you ain’t have no taste”.

Listen to All Gas on YouTube and YouTube music now.
