Legendary BIG DADDY KANE announces Meredith Music Festival sideshows

From Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn to Australia – legendary Big Daddy Kane has announced his Meredith Music Festival sideshows for Sydney and Melbourne in December.

On his first visit to Australia, the hip-hop icon – still one of the sharpest rappers in the game – will bring his inimitable baritone and smooth flow to the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on December 12 and at The Oxford Art Factory in Sydney on December 13.

One of the titans of hip-hop’s golden age, BDK has had an astonishing career. He went from “raw” rap king to “Smooth Operator” R&B star, he even did “ladies only” shows. A known showman - with sharp suits and a high top fade - Kane put pressure on rappers to step their style up. He became a fashion icon, even appearing in the Madonna Sex book, half nude with Madonna and Naomi Campbell. But whilst his playa style caught him some attention, he could always back it up on stage. He always catches the time and spirit, he’s fun and he’s funny.

"To me, Big Daddy Kane is still today one of the best rappers. I would put Big Daddy Kane against any rapper in a battle. Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, any of them. I could take his 'Raw' "swagger" from ‘88 and put it up against any record from today. Kane is one of the most incredible lyricists… and he will devour you on the mic. I don't want to try to out-rap Big Daddy Kane. Big Daddy Kane can rap circles around cats." - ICE T

“Even today I use some of his ideas for my own show. His flow was sick: He was condensing, stacking rhymes one on top of another. Trying to keep up with him was an exercise in breath control, wordplay, speed and imagination. He was relentless on the mic.” - JAY Z

With several Gold albums to his name, Kane brings a slew of hits to Australia – from late-80s classics like 'Ain't No Half Steppin'" and "Raw", which showcased his high-speed style, to the Terry Riley-produced "I Get The Job Done" and his duet with Barry White, “All Of Me”. That baritone voice has also narrated the documentary film “Notorious” and made a couple of cameo appearances in "Brown Sugar" and "Gunmen”.

“I get physical, mystical, very artistical… Giving party people something funky to listen to.” – BIG DADDY KANE

As a powerful figure in the rap game Kane has collaborated with artists such as Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, Craig G, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Heavy D, Busta Rhymes and Patti LaBelle. All of that along with one Grammy and a coveted VH1 Hip Hop Honor, which he received in 2005.

Don’t miss the ultimate playa Big Daddy Kane on his first ever Australian tour.
