Hailing from Melbourne, Shreta signed with The Heavy Group (Bazzi, Kiana Ledé, Jay Sean) in early 2021 and has been working with top-notch producers in Los Angeles on her next batch of releases. We’re excited to get to know her a little bit more in this exclusive interview.

Tell us how you got into music?
I have been singing all my life.

How did you come up with your latest release?
I was in the studio with friends and the song pretty much wrote itself, it felt like a huge release.. I felt so fulfilled when it was finished.

Who are your influences?
James Fauntleroy, PND, Bryson Tiller.

Growing up as a South Indian artist in Australia, was it difficult to be a creative?
Growing up as a South Indian artist, I face so much resistance within my community and a lack of understanding sometimes from the people closest to me. It is a struggle to live an unconventional life and to defy the limitations that people have placed on me growing up. It feels like a constant uphill battle sometimes but it is very rewarding living in my complete truth and is so freeing to create what I want and be whatever I want.

How do you feel about the rise of South Asians in music industry?
It makes me proud and excited, we are so talented and hard-working and I love to see it.

What are you working on next?
I have so much more music on the way.

What stimulates your soul?
Meditation, continuing forward on my spiritual journey and allowing my music to develop alongside me in the process.
